A common theme with all of my posts are my laments that I don’t post enough. I am genuinely hoping to change that in 2023, as I would like to showcase my amazing couples I get to work with. I’m also hoping to consistently be writing and publishing, so I’m putting that down in writing to attempt to keep myself accountable.

Although I do have quite a long backlog of shoots that I would like to blog about, I’m going to start off with my most recent shoot— a proposal at Scripps Pier!

The weather in Southern California has been all over the place recently, with tons of on and off rain. It’s been one of the rainiest winters in recent memory (there are actually a couple shoots I currently have on hold so that we can wait for better weather) and it’s snowed in places that NEVER snow. Completely unheard of. This couple flew in from Houston to enjoy the long weekend, so unfortunately waiting out the weather was not an option. Instead, they were troopers and braved the wind, all while being underdressed for the unexpectedly not sunny California weather.

Thankfully even though it was cold and super windy, it never rained and we still got some great lighting! The pier can tend to be busy, and sometimes there can even be a line of photographers waiting to take photos at the pier, so that turned out to be one plus of shooting in less than ideal weather. It also forced us to be more decisive with our shots since everyone was getting cold, so we wound up with a quick and efficient shoot.

One funny moment: afterwards, Daniel let me know that he had been trying to stall for time as they had arrived to the pier early while I was still on my way. The original plan was for them to walk around the beach for a bit and I would give them time to enjoy before meeting them at the pier, but since it was so cold and windy and they were underdressed, he had to call to tell me that if possible, we would go ahead and take photos as soon as we could. But since he had to find an excuse to let his fiancé know why he was calling me, he had to tell her that he wanted to call his mom, so he was whispering to me in hushed tones that I was his mom and to just meet then at the pier as soon as possible. Never been a mom replacement before!

Anyway, please enjoy some of the highlights of our shoot from the abnormally cold, windy, and gloomy San Diego.
